Have you been told that you have ‘anger issues? Do you find it difficult to remain calm when stressed or when you are in a disagreement with someone? Are you worried about your temper?

Anger is a natural human emotion that has an important purpose in human expression. There are many unfair systems and situations in life that we have every right to be angry about. Anger can give us the vital energy we need to challenge injustices, overcome obstacles and defend ourselves. Anger reminds us of our values, of what matters to us. It signals boundary violations and drives us to make meaningful changes in our lives.

At the same time, becoming angry easily or feeling out of control can cause us and those around us psychological or physical harm. Learning to manage, contain and direct anger, to find safe ways to express our feelings and to address differences and conflicts non-violently, requires self-awareness and emotional regulation, skills that can be developed with the support of a counsellor.

How Can Therapy Help?

Therapy is not about suppressing anger or pretending it should disappear. It is about making sense of what sits beneath it, recognising what sparks it, and learning how to respond in ways that are safer, steadier and more constructive. With support, you can become more aware of your triggers, create space before reacting, and find healthier ways to communicate and handle conflict.
