In our culture of social comparison it can understandably feel really hard to be confident about ourselves. Mental wellness relies on a good relationship with our selves though. Afterall, we are the only person we will live with for the whole of our life. Self-esteem is about holding a positive level of self-worth and self-value. It isn’t about being arrogant, or perfect; it’s about accepting and liking who we are, as we are, and changing only those things we can and want to change. Confidence is the external expression of self-esteem; the translation of our self-worth into knowing that we are good at things and our contribution is valued.
Our Network counsellors can help you to develop self-esteem and confidence by offering a safe, non-judgemental space to explore who you are. Your therapist will support you to identify the roots of the negative beliefs that maintain your inner critical voice and will support you with any trauma, childhood experiences or current challenges that affect your sense of self. Your therapist will help you to develop practical skills such as assertiveness and healthy boundary setting to buildyour confidence and overall self-value.
